Reasons Why Men Pay for Sex

Football great Lawrence Taylor garnered much attention when he entered a guilty plea in response to charges that he was having sex with a prostitute. Even worse – the prostitute was only 16-years-old. His plea allowed him to avoid jail time, but he will have to serve a probationary sentence for six years and will have to register as a sex offender.
Taylor was an accomplished athlete and in all rights, a celebrity. Why did he choose to pay for sex? This question was examined in this Rolling Out report, which explored five reasons why men will pay for sex.
First, some men lack the interpersonal skills necessary to develop a normal relationship with a woman. This leaves them feeling self-conscious and unable to pursue anything beyond an acquaintance level with a woman he may desire. As a result, the idea of paying for sex presents itself as the only viable option to connect with a female sexually.
Second, some men refuse to deal with emotions. There are a number of men who simply want to have sex, but don’t want to spend any time dating or dealing with the emotional aspect of a relationship.
Third, some men are lonely. Perhaps they are away from home a lot or they are involved in long distance relationships that make the loneliness more difficult. They may choose to pay for sex to replace the lack of intimacy in their lives.
Fourth, the allure of instant gratification is more than some men can refuse. This is a society of instant gratification and instead of getting involved in a relationship and waiting for the appropriate time to engage in sex with a committed partner, the man seeks to satisfy his sexual urges right away.
Finally, there are men who simply have a sex addiction and rely on the activity to get them through the day. This individual is often willing to pay for sex, even though he has a wife or girlfriend willing to satisfy his urges.
Regardless of the motivation for paying for sex – the activity still has consequences and every man should be ready to face them if he chooses to indulge.
